Weaver makes NBA ‘debut’ this afternoon

Posted by Jeff Nusser on July 12, 2008

The broadcast schedule is up online for the NBA summer league in Las Vegas, and if you have a broadband connection, you can catch Kyle Weaver’s first game with the Charlotte Bobcats today at 3 p.m. PT. — all you have to do is become an NBA.com “All-Access” member (which is free). The video from each game also is archived to watch later here if you can’t catch it today.

Derrick Low made his debut yesterday with the Dallas Mavericks, but played only three minutes. He did shoot 1-for-2 and dish out a pair of assists, but here’s to hoping he can get some more minutes to show what he can do.

To track how each does, Weaver has his own summer league page here, while Low’s summer league page is here.

Thanks for the info, I just signed up and got to catch Low in the game. He definitely played well enough to warrant more minutes and a closer look at what he can do. His handling of the point was pretty smooth, as was his running of the fast break to earn himself an easy layup. I really hope he finds his stroke from beyond the arc, because he cannot afford to go cold. I can’t imagine the pressure he probably feels to perform well. I know he must love the game and just tries to have fun out there, but the rest of his life will be impacted by how well he does. Crazy.

Dead on, Broberg. Good observation on Low. A little voice in the back of my mind tells me not to be surprised if in two years Low is in the NBA and Weaver is not. I hope both are there, of course, but from early indications, Weaver has to be in carpe diem mode right now. Let the game come to you, but at the same time don’t let this opportunity slip away.
