I asked you to be patient, and your patience is finally going to be rewarded.

The news you’ve all been waiting for is finally here: WSU HOOPS has joined forces with Stadium Way to create, the newest blog on the Sports Blog Nation network. We’ll be covering ALL things Cougars over there, not just basketball.

Now that WSU HOOPS will forever be frozen in this state with this final post, you might be asking yourself: What does this mean for me? Trust me when I say that we would not have made this move if we didn’t think it was better for everyone — especially you.

First of all, you’ll get more comprehensive coverage. My specialty on the site still will be hoops, but the coverage now will include football and other Cougar sports. I never wanted to tackle that much coverage by myself, but with the inimitable Grady Clapp on board as my co-author, I’m excited about what we’re going to be able to produce.

Second, the SB Nation site format allows for tons of reader interaction, the highlights of which you can find at this introductory post.

So what are you waiting for? Jump on over to CougCenter, bookmark it, and make it your first daily destination for all things Cougars on the Internet.

Posted by Jeff Nusser on August 18, 2008

Sorry so quiet

Posted by Jeff Nusser on July 29, 2008

Yes, I know the schedule has been released, and I’m working on my thoughts. But one of the reasons things have been so quiet is we’re working on some exciting changes around here. I don’t want to give away too many details until it’s finalized, but suffice to say I’m extremely excited about the direction of this site and where we’re going to be in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, make sure you familiarize yourself with Grady over at Stadium Way. He’s awesome. And have I ever said how awesome I think the name of that blog is?

All quiet on the Cougar front

Posted by Jeff Nusser on June 5, 2008

Things have been pretty slow around here at WSU HOOPS. I’ve contemplated writing a few things — including about Tony’s proclamation about how much he loves Pullman — but honestly, this is the busiest time of year for a teacher, and the few pieces of news have been well covered elsewhere.

I’ve thought about finally writing a 2007-08 season postmortem, but I think the time has passed for that. I’ve thought about writing look-aheads to next season, but it seems a little silly until we know for sure who’s in and out of the draft.

So I wait.

If you have any burning questions, I could do another mailbag. But honestly, unless I just start writing about how awesome the Stanley Cup Finals were, I pretty much got nothing at the moment. Give me a couple of weeks, and we’ll ramp it up a bit again.

You know, last time I wrote one of these, Thomas Abercrombie transferred …

All quiet on the WSU HOOPS front

Posted by Jeff Nusser on May 13, 2008

It’s been a week since my last post, and honestly, there’s very little going on right now. I’ve still got some longer posts I’m kicking around/working on that are more big picture things, but nothing ready for publishing yet.

What I’d like to do is steal a little idea from my friend Grady over at Stadium Way, and solicit some e-mails for a mailbag post. Got a question that’s been burning you up? Shoot me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to share my thoughts with all.

Tomorrow cannot get here fast enough

Posted by Jeff Nusser on March 19, 2008

We are now just under 24 hours from the tipoff of the 2008 Tournament, and quite frankly, I’ve got ants in my pants like my freshmen waiting for the clock to hit 3 p.m.  I’ve been racking my brain, trying to think of something meaningful to write today, but it’s been futile. It’s just time to play the games already.

So, instead of wasting my time and yours with something that won’t be worth reading, I’ll instead just throw some reminders your way as we look toward tomorrow:

  • If you haven’t signed up for our WSU HOOPS Bracket Challenge, what are you waiting for?
  • Visit for links to all the latest news on the Cougs.
  • Visit this Rock Hill Herald site for all the local news on Winthrop.
  • We’ll have games threads for the morning and afternoon NCAA sessions, as well as (obviously) the Cougar game thread. Hoping to have lots of good discussion about all the games.
  • If you are at a broadband connection, you should be signed up for CBS’ March Madness On Demand. I did it last year, and it really is as good as advertised. Very, very cool — and free. Do it soon, because they’re just about out of VIP passes. They limit the number of people that can be connected at any one time, and the VIP pass makes it so you don’t have to wait long for a connection to open up.

That’s all for today. I’m probably going to go to bed early tonight like a kid on Christmas Eve so the morning gets here faster.

Sorry for the silence – thoughts to come

Posted by Jeff Nusser on March 17, 2008

Just my luck that on the weekend that I generally have the most to say, I was completely unable to get to a computer.

A weekend that began with traveling over to the west side for a professional conference was interrupted by taking my son to the hospital late Saturday night (he’s sick, but OK), getting home at 2 a.m., driving around Sunday to find a place open to fix the flat tire on our car (thank you, Mr. Roofing Nail!), finding out that one of my son’s prescriptions would cost $266 (!), driving three hours back to Wenatchee then going back to Wal-Mart to buy my son the humidifier he needed, wrestling with my screaming son who doesn’t really prefer nebulizers, and finished with me curled up comatose on the couch thanks to something I ate earlier in the evening.

But, I’m back at work this morning and excited to write. After all, this is the most fun time of year to be doing what we do. I’ll have my thoughts on the Cougs and their draw later, as well as an exciting and fun opportunity for readers of the blog.

Just bear with me!

That was awesome

Posted by Jeff Nusser on March 9, 2008

Just got back into town from Pullman, so I’m going to be going to bed soon without writing a post. But I’ll have a post on the big win tomorrow, where my biggest challenge will be sorting out all the thoughts bouncing around my brain. Lots of subplots to digest.

And, it serves as the perfect jumping off point for the biggest stretch yet at the blog — the Pac-10 tournament, where the Cougs kick off with a surging Ducks team; Selection Sunday; and then the first round of the NCAA Tournament, all within the next 10 days or so. There will be a lot going on around here, and I hope you’re as excited as I am.

Oh, and those of you that are true Cougs will appreciate this photo, from lunch today.

Until tomorrow.

WSU HOOPS blog function finalized

Posted by Jeff Nusser on March 7, 2008

OK, so here it is. It seems it will be a small, but intense and rabid, group of Cougar basketball fans.

WSU HOOPS Blog Function

  • Who: Any of us in Pullman tomorrow
  • What: A get together of the best WSU basketball fans around — the readers of WSU HOOPS
  • When: 2 p.m.
  • Where: The Coug
  • Why: Because we’ll all be there. And it’s senior day. And we rule. And beer is tasty.

I’ll try and make up some kind of table tent or something that says WSU HOOPS so we can find each other, but if all else fails, I’ll be the 30-year-old guy wearing crimson a white collared shirt with a red tie (it’s the closest I’ve got to crimson — I’m on the bandwagon, Michelle!) with earrings that are way too big for someone his age. If you know you’re going to be there and you want my cell number just in case, shoot me an e-mail and I’ll send it to you.

WSU HOOPS blog function update

Posted by Jeff Nusser on March 6, 2008

So, this blog function thing isn’t exactly taking off as well as I had hoped. Maybe you all aren’t going to be in Pullman. Maybe you are, but you’re not sure if I’m cool enough to spend some time with before the game. (Trust me, I am. Ask Jo-Jo.) Maybe you just haven’t had time to respond to the previous post.

Whatever it is — to borrow a phrase from our coach — now’s the time to get on board.

As of right now, it’s basically going to be me and Longball. And I’m sure Longball is a cool guy, but being the Cougs that we are, we like our parties big. So if you think you can make it, respond to this post with an “I’ll be there” and a suggestion of when and where. That way, I can work out my own travel details and we can get this thing rolling.
