Length of Harmeling’s injury still unknown

With not a lot out there floating around as we gear up for that huge matchup with North Carolina … uh, A&T … I’ve thrown together a quick hodge-podge of stuff to tide you over for the day.
First off, we still don’t know how long Daven Harmeling will be out. We do know that he doesn’t need surgery, but according to the Spokesman-Review’s Vince Grippi, the cast won’t be taken off for another two weeks when another x-ray will be performed — basically, that will have been three weeks from the actual injury. A timetable is expected at that time.
Other stuff:
-
A cool feature on the development of Aron Baynes by Howie Stalwick for The Olympian. My favorite part is where Dick Bennett once called Baynes a “big bear with a sore ass” at practice. I can just see that in my mind, along with the picture of all of his teammates trying not to laugh.
-
A “Where are they now?” feature on former Coug James Donaldson by Dan Raley at the P-I. A bit before my time, but interesting nonetheless.
-
A nice feature out of the Bay Area on women’s coach June Daugherty, who really has the program headed in the right direction — remarkable for both how terrible the team was when she took over, and given that she had a heart attack shortly after getting the job. Having covered her Huskies for a year at The News Tribune, I can honestly tell you that Daugherty is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. She fits in much better as a Coug than she ever did as a Husky, I think.
-
Finally, a nice piece about the birth of Tony Harris’ daughter. Harris, you’ll remember, is the former Coug who was recently found dead in Brazil.
That’s all for now. I’ll be en route to Disneyland tomorrow, so I can tell you the posts will be sparse for the next week or so. I hope you all had an awesome Christmas and have a safe and happy New Year.
